ISO 16949 Automotive Sector Quality Management System

ISO 16949 has been created by the ISO Technical Committee-TC 176 for global automotive industry. It includes the QS 9000 standard created by FORD,GM and CHRYSLER, the German VDA6.1, French EAQF and Italian AVSQ standards.

It has been created by implementing the special requirements of the automotive sector in the ISO9000 standard. It has the basic system approach that ensures continuous development and prevents mistakes from happening.
Although the QS9000 standard has become widely accepted recently, the new standard is ready to be launched. QS9000 standard, which will be valid until 2003 and will expire after this date, will not have a revision for the year 2000.

ISO 16949 has been developed by the International Automotive Task Force (IATF) in collaboration with ISO/TC 176 representatives and the experts of automobile manufacturers and Trade Unions.

It is based on the following standards:

ISO 9001 (International);
QS-9000 (Big Three - ABD);
AVSQ (ANFIA - Italy);
EAQF (FIEV - France);
VDA 6.1 (VDA/QMC - Germany).

THE STRUCTURE OF ISO 16949 SYSTEM

It has been made conformant with ISO9001:2000 standards with the 2nd revision published on March 26th, 2002.

The purpose of ISO/TS 16949 standard is,
